The Lightspeed alternative without a processing requirement

NectarPay vs. Lightspeed

Lightspeed's agreement requires Lightspeed Payments unless Lightspeed agrees otherwise, and charges a monthly fee to those who process elsewhere. NectarPay runs on Stripe Terminal, with your own Stripe account.

Why counters switch from Lightspeed

Your own payments account

Lightspeed charges a monthly fee, from $200 in the US, to merchants who don't use Lightspeed Payments. NectarPay runs on your own Stripe account.

Readers that aren't locked in

Lightspeed supports only terminals bought from Lightspeed. Stripe Terminal readers belong to your Stripe account and work with any Stripe software.

Your catalog, as it is

NectarPay's product import reads Lightspeed Retail's product export: names, variants, SKUs, retail prices and each outlet's stock.

Bring everything over from Lightspeed

1

Your products

In Lightspeed Retail (X-Series), open Catalog, Products, and choose Export list as XLSX. On R-Series, open Inventory, Item search, and choose Export.

In NectarPay, open Products, Import, and choose the file. X-Series columns are matched for you; on an R-Series file, pick the name and price columns.

2

Your customers

Open Customers and choose Export list.

Open Customers, Import, and choose it. First and last names are joined, and anyone already here isn't added twice.

3

Your stock

X-Series exports a stock column for each outlet.

Import the file once per location, picking the location and its stock column each time.

Before you cancel Lightspeed

Find your renewal date

Lightspeed's agreement renews on its own for the same term. For a term longer than 90 days, it needs written notice 90 days before the term ends.

Check for an early termination fee

Leaving before the term ends makes the rest of the term's fees due at once, along with any discount you were given.

Check free hardware

Discounted or free hardware has to be paid back if you stop using Lightspeed Payments within 24 months.
